if you get a long screwdriver and put the handle to your ear and other end on to each fuel injector in turn you should be able to hear them clicking quite clearly whilst someone else cranks the engine over. try that first and let us know how it goes.

Cheers Gaz,

I will try that tomorrow.  I have now tested the rail and I'm getting just over 11v to it, I measured 5ohms at the rail and 17ish at each injector.  I have replaced all the injector seals and I removed the return pipe and added another piece of pipe into a bucket to ensure fuel is returning. It is but it is pouring, should it be under pressure on the return?

Also it ran for a little longer today, still only about a minute but I notice smoke coming from the rear of the engine, only a small amount and it smelled like exhaust fumes so I am guessing its coming from the exhaust manifold? Its a new manifold so likely to be poorly fitted if that is the case, would that stop it running?  The manifold also got very hot in the sort time it was running.

Almost certainly a timing issue, check your static timing marks (using the flywheel), then when you're convinced its correct, get someone else to double check.

May seem like a strange question, but did you fit a new rocker cover gasket? The 'smoke' coming from behind the engine isn't oil dripping down on the manifold from an incorrectly seated gasket? Just an idea!
