Loss of Electrics
« on: 25 February 2015, 10:09 »
Hi Folks,

Sorry to ask, but the mrs just gave me a call from work to say that there is no electrics in the golf (aum) other than a light or 2. The car starts and runs.

I tiihnk that the earth bolt on the alternator (one before the end of the loom of which the nut screws on top of) may have sheared when I was putting it back on when doing the thermstat at the weekend.

Just checking to see if anyone knows the bolt size for the earth as I think it may have sheared going back on. I would expect that if the earth came off, then this would cause the electric issues?

Just called VW who cant seem to find the bolt or earth I am talking about

Thanks folks.

I will check,

but the 2 straps that screw into the rear of the alternator (the strap is a few inches before the end of the loom which is secured by a nut on the side of the alt), I am struggling to understand if this is an actual earth or just to secure the cable out of the way.

I am sure this small bolt has came loose.
