Fixed seat creak at last.
« on: 17 April 2015, 13:25 »
For the last year or so I have had an annoying creak from the right hand side of my cloth front seat every time any pressure is put on it from cornering, shifting position.

I was pretty convinced it was something about half way up the side bolster. I had a half hearted attempt to sort it about a year ago, but it was never fully quiet.

Recently its got worse so as I had some spare time yesterday took the seat out and managed to peel the seat cover up to expose the seat airbag. Its a nightmare job!

Put it all back together again. Creak still there. Poo!

Eventually traced the creak to the hinge area where the back of the seat attaches to the subframe. Hit it with the spray grease and voila! All is quiet in my Golf once more. Pity about the wasted 21/2 hours up to identifying the real source. Had the seat in the back garden with my wife in it rocking from side to side. Hope the neighbours weren't watching..

There are several threads, mainly from the States where the dealers are replacing parts of the seat frame only for the creaking to re occur soon after. Wonder if half an hour with a bit of grease would be a better solution?
