Rear axle bushes

Hi Chaps!

My trusted mechanic is going to swap out my rear axle bushes for me before the MOT next month as they're pretty goosed! Car is 2002 with 85k miles so probably due for changing.

I've bought some genuine VW bushes, which the parts guy suggested were much improved over the earlier designs. I've not upgraded them as I've started to do a fair few miles for work recently & don't want any harsher a ride than standard.

So the question I've got is - are they just an install or is there a particular alignment for them? I can't see any tell take markings on the bush to indicate any sort of alignment. The last thing I want is for them to be installed incorrectly.

What sort of labour charge are you looking at to replace these?
Mine need doing soon, wouldn't mind a ballpark figure when I go for quotes.
I'll probably put in superpro's so they never need doing again (hopefully)

Just uprate! If you go poly they maybe too hard. The cupra are a good upgrade, people rave about them.

As for labour I'd say it will take a garage a solid 3 hours with all the tools, so what's that, atleast £150 labour?

I've heard a lot on ukmkivs that the superpro's are fairly compliant and nowhere near as hard as the powerflex ones.. Also they are easier to fit apparently.. Anyway I always put in hours and hours of research before I do anything to my car to make sure it's right first time.. Thanks for the suggestion!

cant comment on uprating them as i used standard in my car.

i did them myself, wasnt to much of a problem, although they were a b!tch to get in... poly bushes would be alot easier.

was just a case of undo a few bolts, drop the axle a little press the old ones out, put the new ones in using a bit of threaded bar and a few bits of plate... jobs a goodun.

Labour - not too sure at the moment, my trusted mechanic is pretty good to me so as long as I take chocolate biscuits & make the tea I'm hoping it won't be too painful. I'm hoping at under £100 anyway, hopefully nearer £60 to be honest. That's not including the parts as I've already got original bushes, nuts & bolts from the dealers.

I paid £80 labour for Superpro's fitted.

Did make a huge difference although bound to after having shot standard bushes on for months. Vast improvement on handling and looked to add a slight bit of camber.

Will be buying again in the future
