Mk2 GTI 8v Setup from rubjonny guide
« on: 20 November 2014, 10:44 »
So it looks as though the old girl needs a good seeing too and rubjonny's guide seems to be the way to get this done.
I do not trust myself to to do this job, i'm a little bit too much of a "that will do" kind of guy and as this is my daily run around i rely on the old girl too much for that.
So, is there anyone in the Nottingham area that someone can recommend that i can take her too or will come to me and help me do it properly??
Of course i offer my invaluable tea making skills, biscuits and the handing of spanners and moral support or cash, whichever you prefer.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

You can do a lot of his guide without doing any permanent changes. You can start with changing the sensor and resetting the ecu.

You can at least check the static timing through the bell housing cover and see if it's right. If not then find someone to do that. (Can't hurt to double check everything in two separate places aka spark plug hole cylinder one and bell housing and then the two marks on the cam sprocket)

I don't touch the co when I set up the car and will always take it to a friendly garage who will set it at lunch or something.

If you can get a semi decent timing light, mine was £20 then you can check the dynamic timing without having to turn the dizzy at all. If it is out and the static timing is right then adjusting the dizzy timing isn't hard but is much easier with two people.
