VW Dealer - 2 goes to fix a picture
« on: 26 October 2014, 21:49 »
I got a puncture in my offside rear about 5 months ago and took it to the dealer as punctures are free for the life of the car. After checking my pressures a few weeks later the same tyre was losing pressure and I noticed the plug they'd used to supposedly fix the picture was sitting proud of the tread (about 10mm). Got them to look at it on first service and lo and behold the puncture still isn't repaired. Appears all they've done is trim the plug but it still bubbles when you apply water. Would you give them another chance to fix it properly or just go somewhere else and chance that they don't scratch/scuff the alloy (about the only thing dealer managed to do right)??

Fixing punctures for the lifetime of the car??? Is that on all Golfs or a special offer you've received?

Pulman repair punctures free? Did not know that. Get them to repair again. Lots of outfits with old gear and monkeys working there will ruin the alloys finish.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

VW 2 goes to fix a picture?  They are no good with cars so god knows how many chances to fix a picture

Seriously though, like others have said I'd get them to do it again. At least they haven't damaged your wheels so worthwhile persevering with them as they obviously take care even though their work doesn't seem to be that great.

I used kB tyres on team valley just before I traded the tiguan in and he was spot on. He doesn't use plugs and prefers to patch the puncture instead. I've got a feeling that dealer only snipped the end of the plug and didn't actually try to repair it and I'm loathe to go back to Sunderland for servicing after I complained about them having my car 2 days for what was basically an oil change.

Did you get a tyre pressure warning alert?  I had a puncture on my offside rear two weeks ago and had no warning of loss of pressure. I know I set it up when I got the car but hadn't checked it since.

I did the first time with the actual puncture but haven't since. Don't need the car to tell me that a tyre is losing pressure when I can see it with my own eyes

You won't be able to see a slow puncture though. That's where the TPMS comes into it's own

The tyre had lost about 1.2psi when I checked it yesterday. I can see the air bubbles coming out of the puncture plug Craig but it's obviously not a big enough hole to go down overnight.
