8v Gearbox on a 16v
« on: 11 September 2005, 03:09 »
OMFG is all i can say.

If you have a powersteering model like mine, then its a bastard to get the box in and out, but fook me is it worth it. Picked up a lightened and balanced flywheel and fitted that to a new clutch along with the 8v gearbox to my 2.0 16v and bugger me does it shift. I was following my mate who helped me fit it and he was in a 1.8T Audi A3, and i was able to stick with him all the way up to about 110, then he pissed on me.

Nothing can beat the feeling of being thrown back into your seat over and over in every gear, i nearly turtled at how fast it was. Sorry boys but all you with valvers of the 2.0 variety that like a nice level of performance get a 8v box strapped on. It will eat normal valver boxed 2.0 all day long along with most modern hot hatchs, and even some coupe's etc.

Can't wait for the alcohol to wear off and go for a spin later today. I fooking love my car again.

only difference in the 8v boxes are slightly longer 2nd & 5th gears. so its not the gearbox that is making the difference!. lightened flywheel though is another story;)

outta curiosity what is the code of the 8v box you put in?

i got mine back on the road there also, after its gearbox incident! luckily i dont have the power steering nightmare so wasnt that bad to drop out & in again!

gearbox code is ADC, aye i had a feeling the ratios in 5th gear were longer. That flywheel is out of this world the pull it has on it now is immense.

ACD aye? that box is the closest 8v box you can get to 16v box, ratios are identical apart from 5th which is slightly longer. making motorway driving that bit easier!!

in the end i got my box rebuilt. diff rivets had went but luckily it did split the casing. so was happy enough to get an overhaul and the diff bolt kit fitted.

how much yoy pay for the flywheel, always wondered just how much of a difference they make to the 16v's

Thats the job, lol bleeding typos. Yeah it felt a bit different in 5th but all the others were pretty similar. Lightened flywheels make a hell of a lot of difference, it just kicks you in the ass everytime you put your foot down.

You have pm.
