Another rpm thread
« on: 02 September 2014, 12:33 »
Thought I'd carry on the theme with this, seems slightly different to the others.

I am getting a random surge in revs, around the 3k mark and usually in 5th gear, when accelerating. Will shoot up to about 4k, engine note changes but there is no difference in the power generated. My suspects are either an air leak somewhere or a slipping throttle cable. Does anyone have more info before I start poking around? It's an 8v Digi.

Cheers
Steve

Clutch?
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

Clutch?

This ^
If the revs increase in gear it can only be the clutch slipping can't it?

A test for clutch can to put it in a reasonably high gear and try a floor it up a hill. It should struggle up as the gear is too high, however if the revs rise without the car accelerating then the clutch is slipping.
