Hello all,
First post and it's a question! (I have google searched and used the search function on this forum with similar results, but not the exact same issue.)
I recently bought the car as a bit of a project, it had no MOT or tax and a broken driveshaft (but I got it for £300!)
I have fitted new pads and discs on all four corners and replaced the driveshaft (Near side)
Whilst driving at around 30mph I could hear a loud rubbing/droning type sound, similar to a failing wheel bearing, or a tyre flat spot.
I had a new set of tyres which I was going to swap onto the car anyway so I had the new tyres put on, but the noise still happens.
I then suspected that it may be coming from the front near side so took it to the garage, they agreed it sounded like a bearing and took it in for repair. They phoned me later to say that they had tested the bearings (not sure what they did) and found that they were all as good as new, but suggested that the n/s driveshaft could be faulty. I trust this garage as they have always been good for my other cars in the past.
I replaced the N/S driveshaft today but the sound persists!
The noise happens between 30 - 55mph and speeds up as I accelerate in a straight line. It sounds rhythmic and is not a single tone. At first I thought that the sound went away when swerving the car right, but this only happens occasionally, every other time it persists when swerving right or left. I can fully depress the clutch and the sound does not go away. I know that an anti roll bar bush does need replacing on it and can hear a very light knocking from it every now and again, but I very much doubt it could be this.
Any ideas what this could be?!
thank you in anticipation...
