I've just looked at an octavia estate this morning going for £200. 2003 reg 1.9tdi (so PD engine I presume?) just over 200k miles.
It's been sat for 6 months
no tax
no mot
no advisories on previous mot
exhaust has snapped where it joins the cat
bit of swarf in the oil
needs n/s/f tyre
o/s/r light unit has abit of the cover missing, unsure if white light shines through
everything seems to work fine
no knocks bangs, odd noises when I drove it up and down the lane
no service history - Don't know if and when the cambelt has been done
Now I could buy it, fix the exhaust, put the spare wheel on, put red reflective tape over the rear light and see if it passes the mot.
If it passes, service it and new cambelt.
If it fails, get tax back and ebay it.
Or just look for something else.
WHat do you guys reckon?
