Coolant Pipe Replacement
« on: 29 June 2014, 18:19 »
Hi all, just checking that I have the right part number and whether anyone had any recommendations on a replacement.

026121053G is the part number I have.  The pipe I am replacing is the one that is to left (drivers) side as you look into the engine bay as it goes into the firewall and it then fits onto the metal coolant pipe that heads off toward the oil filter and cooler…..gosh can’t you tell I’m not a mechanic   I replaced it when I first got the car as it was weeping, this one has lasted only just over 2 years with it going hard and has developed a crack.  I have bodged it with duck tape for time being, but want to order later tonight or tomorrow really.  I believe I bought a cheap replica last time and was wondering whether this one would be better or if there was another I could get?  :undecided:

Cheers
Rob

Your description is slightly confusing, but if it's the hose I think you mean, then no, that isn't the right part number.
Don't you mean this one:

Proximity to exhaust manifold heat is probably why the aftermarket ones don't last. Not available new genuine though as far as I know.

Ahhh OK that does look more like it with the straight piece at one end that goes onto the metal pipe with the curved end going into bulkhead.  Sorry about the description, it was the best I could do!!

Given that my motor is a 1990 8v GTi (PB engine code) will this still be OK?

Magic, I'll get one ordered.  Anything I can do to stop it drying out and spliting again?  Though I am hoping this one may be better quality

Ordered with a rocker gasket conversion kit

Now just need to find where that annoying click, click, click noise is coming from as the wheels go round....oh and the slight oil leak...and the blum'n radio that now seems to vary it signal based on my blower setting!
