dripping noise

hi everyone, started to hear a dripping noise coming from the fuel tank area after a drive. it's constant so not fuel sloshing about, more of a deep sounding drip. there's nothing hitting the floor under the car so a bit confused as to where this is coming from and if it's a problem or just another common noise in the mk5?!

*edit* just had a thought... i had the car remapped at r-tech last week and they mentioned something about changing the cam follower on the fuel pump, could this be anything to do with the noise?!

Regardless, change the high pressure fuel pump cam follower. It's something that should be replaced at the same time you do a full service in a car with a remapped ECU.

There's a kit available on Awesome GTI's website, and there's plenty of how-to guides and YouTube videos to reference.

thanks, it's booked in to be done next month 

that dripping noise only happened once (yesterday) and went on for a few minutes after turning off the engine. i asked in the local vw garage about the noise and they said it's nothing common that they know of. it's not happened today so just going to keep an eye on it... hopefully it will be ok.

i did open the fuel cap and to see if it was a pressure thing, there was an odd noise when i did that so might well be some pressure related thing going on?!

My car is standard and does this from time to time, it did it this afternoon in fact.

The fuel tank is full and its a warm day so I just put it down to that.  Can't remember if it was the same conditions when its done it before.

it's hard to describe but not exactly a dripping noise, it's like a deeper noise but like a drip if that makes sense. it happened again today and i opened up the fuel cap to let out some pressure and this made creaking come from underneath the car

Mines be making that sound for years, since I got the car in fact (7 years ago now).

Ive just put it down to another one of the many sounds it makes

I think the dripping is fuel that's being returned to the tank from it's release via the fuel pressure release valve in the fuel rail (it just under the intake manifold).
