New guy needs some help
« on: 17 May 2014, 11:58 »
Hi all just found this site and looking for some help

I have a 2001 Golf Gti Turbo of what I have had 6 months, it however at the moment has a few problems.  The main problem being that I have changed the oil 1 month ago to a 5/30w but since the oil change it has developed a loud tapping noise from the engine and since the change everyone says my car sounds rough.  Before the change it sounded lovely

Does anyone know what I have done wrong ?

Thanks

Your oil is to thin I would recommend 10w 40. If you continue to use the wrong oil then you can do damage to the engine
2004 auq, 550cc injectors, gt3071r, adjustable fpr, ebc, fmic, sachs stage 2, walbro 255, 3" turbo back, 3" custom intake, n75 n249 sai delete.

Hi and welcome.

Have you had a flashing oil light on at any time since the oil change? This could come from an obstructed pick up pipe and something very common.

If you used a good quality 5/30 (meeting the VW spec) then I doubt very much that the type of oil was the cause. (It is after all, what VW recommend). Mine is happily running it now.

Use 5w 40 or 0w 40 oil  :smug: Also check the oil level , because after you change it and fill up to max , when you run it, it will go down to min or show nothing on the dip stick.
