Hi people

I recently went to go and view a 2008 golf R32 with 59,000 Miles on the clock. Now the car has had 6 owners!? Does that seem fishy to some people?
The car does have full service history some VW and some VW specialist, now in the service book the tooth belt box is ticked on 3 of the services...what is a tooth belt?

The bloke has only owned this car 6 months and says the bloke before him said he changed the belt...I aint risking it is there anyway i can see if its been changed?

Also this bloke has fitted a aftermarket alarm system Clifford, now the alarm system allows him to start the car while he's sitting in he's house via he's key fob! ( pretty cool ) Looking through the paperworks i come to an invoice for £900 which was ECU change and ignition switch.

Does anyone think this would relate back to the alarm system been installed to be able to start the car up?

Would really appreciate peoples feedback on this

Thankyou

Seems a bit dodge to me, first of all R32 has timing chain not belt so unless there is another belt with teeth in it somewhere I can't think what it would be. ECU and ignition switch just sets of alarm bells for me why I don't know just seems a bit dodgy.

R32 with 6 owners isn't that unreal as a lot of people buy then can't afford to run it so sell up quickly and 2008 is now 6yr old could have been a dealer car first for few months so that could be 5owners that seems legit. Everything else is a bit ropey.

If it's cheap it's maybe worth a punt but there is plenty of good R32 out there with a ton of VW service history just gotta find right one.

Do you know when the timing chain should be changed? is it every 5 years or 80,000 miles like standard cars?

No I don't think it's checked at certain point a couple times before the recommended change point.

U got any links to an advert so we can have a look and help you anymore.

Also if your looking for something particular and willing to travel a bit you could get in touch with Dean @ GTi World Edinburgh he will get you what you want and service is second to none.

Have a dig round R32OC.com you might fins some more info there and also maybe find a car too.

I would go with you gut, if your questioning things just now then your not sure and it's probably not the car for you, wait and keep searching you will find what your after.

TBH with you for that price I personally wouldn't buy it, if it's an R32 u want I get one standard or maybe even with the milltek and go from there, the sound system maybe explains the extra security but for me and r32 doesn't need such a massive sound system as the engine and exhaust note are enough. If that's the spec your after have a look at these to ads I found on pistonheads yes there a bit more expensive but could be worth it in the long run. Even look at 57 cars with low miles as long as you get a decent service history you should in theory get a decent motor, if it's VW service you can always call the dealers that have stamped the book to get confirmation of this history in the book.

Choose wisely don't be afraid to get stuck in about to the cars dig into every detail you can if your not 100% sure then you can always walk away! it's your money you have to make sure you spend it wisely.

Check out these to and compare you the other one.

Thanks yes well i told him £12,500 is way over priced he said he would come down i was going to offer him £10,500 and see if he says ok. £10,500 aint a bad price i don't think.

Im still going to look at the Edition 30 golfs I've seen a nice on 2007 35,000miles running 350bhp looks super clean apart from those horrid checkered seats
