I thought this was discussed on here already?  Perhaps that was the GolfMk7 forum.   

Conclusion was it isn't anything official hence the hideous spoiler, Mk6 R wheels and third party logos on it.  Plus VW always cover up badges and things that can identify cars on their mules...

I never saw it mentioned on this forum but had read the article on pistonheads a few weeks ago. At the time they were talking about it being a prototype for the much talked about Evo R but now they are suggesting this is some sort of upgraded GTI - an entirely different proposition

Word is that VW are announcing an R Evo this weekend at the Bejing motor show.

Whatever happens, it'll be interesting as they already have a number of performance golf's within a very tight price range.
