Correct, passenger side was covered in fluid when I turned on full lock.

Guy from AA basically put a clip on the rubber/plastic thing and said this was where it was leaking. Said it could be alright and I may not even need to get a new steering rack but 20miles later the car was exactly the same with it being almost impossible to steer.

I have been told:
Get steering gaiters put on and see if that fixes it
Get steering rack boots and see if this does

If both of the above dont then get the steering rack fitted for £200.

I want to spend as little a poss tbh, spent £900 within the last 9 months on this car :'(

Lighters, I'll save you some money.

Number 1, the AA know feck all go with someone else

Trust me don't change any little gaters here and there the seals within the steering rack have 100% failed.
It is a common issue, and happens to mk4 golfs after they have been lowered and covered high miles. (usally)

I know this because it happened to me and I research more than is needed, I am like a walking wiki sometimes

My advise to you would to buy a re-furbished steering rack from a decent dealer they will offer you a good price if you trade your old one in after the change over. (GSF do this)

My local garage is always good to me and got me a re-burb rack with a 2 year garantee and confirmed he would cover me even thou my car is lowered.

He also did an entire flush of the fluid out of the system to clear any old/worn fluid and replaced it with OEM from VW the bottle is even in german lol.

all that for £300 and now my steering feels light, no noise and I feel safe :)
