bad wobble when driving
« on: 01 June 2014, 16:32 »
I have a bad wobbling while driving my mk4 gti its lowered on fk coilovers.
i was told it was diff throw in the box so i changed the box along with the gearbox mount. Ive checked all wishbones trackrod ends and so on. They all tight. but when i jack the car up when u grab the wheel u can move the wheel in and out and the suspension cups in the engine bay move and spin around. Would it be the driveshaft or the top mounts. It only happens under load and when u are just rolling its fine.??????? Please help as im spending money left right and centre and its not curing the problem.

Check the nut holding the cv joint. Take the wheel off and in the middle of the disk should be a nut. Tighten that up. If thats tight then it will be the hub baring that will need replacing. Dont risk doing long journies with a bad cv or bearing. Or even high speed.

Check your wheels aren't bent - go to tyre shop and ask them to check the balance.  You'll soon see if they're out of round when they put them on the balancer.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

This, Closely inspect the wheels for cracks, or gone out of shape. Also carefully check all tyres for humps and bumps across the tread. Are the wheels centering on the hubs properly, problems here could be related to either wheel spacers, or a lack of spigot rings

Sounds very much like the strut top mounts are very worn.

I know you said you checked wishbones and balljoints but check again as thats what it sounds like to me.

How did you check them?

It only happens under load so what sort of load did you use when checking these parts? You will need to use a long bar or something as leverage.
