Definitely get yourself a decent wax though, as the protection stage is very important and will make regular cleaning easier in the long run. Don't forget to protect your wheels with a wax or a deidcated wheel sealant. There are many decent waxes to choose from and you may wish to choose a colour specific one.
If you're new to detailing, get accustomed to a good basic cleaning regime first before moving onto more specfic stuff like snow foaming, claying and polishing etc. If you enjoy this kind of thing and have the time (and funds) I doubt it will be long before you start progressing onto the more intricate aspects of detaiing.
