HIDs -.-
« on: 26 February 2014, 13:01 »
Alright fellas,

this age old argument i want some clearance on.

just went to the AA website and found this

"Products on the lens or light source that obviously reduce the light's intensity or change its colour will become a reason for failure – applies to front/rear position lamps, registration plate lamps, stop lamps, rear fog and direction indicators,

Headlight requirements are updated to take account of the particular characteristics of High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps.

HID headlights can cause dazzle if they are dirty or aimed too high, so they are generally (if light output exceeds 2000 lumens) fitted in conjunction with headlamp cleaning and levelling systems.  Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted the tester will switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted.

The car will fail if a headlamp levelling or cleaning device is inoperative or otherwise obviously defective.

If a headlamp bulb is not seated correctly the resulting beam pattern will be indistinct and this will result in a test fail."

now this is a ball ache however draw your attention to this

"The car will fail if a headlamp levelling or cleaning device is inoperative or otherwise obviously defective."

does this mean that if your vehicle does not orginally come with a washer kit then it is a pass as it is not then applicable?

cheers guys

If you run HIDs in projector lenses you'll be fine, I highly doubt you will fail an MOT due to lack of washers and levellers.

What is there to set up? As long as you've got projector lenses and your headlight aim is correct then you won't blind anyone.

You can do it in reflectors like the Qashqais have HIDs in reflectors just the MK4 reflectors must be the worst reflectors ever for HIDs.

Where all my moneys went.

The reflectors have to be designed for HID output that's the problem. Honda use reflector lenses too if they come as standard but aftermarket kits will give the glare in the halogen reflector.

I have HIDs in my Depo's and you would think they were standard looking at them because they are aimed properly. Plus light output is way better and the car doesn't look as dated.
