YELLOW LIKE OIL ON OIL CAP

HELLO CAN SOMEONE ADVISE ME PLEASE I RECENTLY NOTICED WHEN PUTTING OIL IN MY GOLF GTi SOME SOFT YELLOW OIL LIKE STUFF AROUND THE OIL CAP.  WHAT COULD IT BE? 

I ALSO NOTICED THAT OF LATE WHEN CHANGING GEARS ITS NO LONGER SMOOTH I HAVE TO TRY A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE I CAN GET IT ESPECIALLY INTO THE FIRST GEAR.

ANY HELP AND ADVISE IS APPRECIATED.

STOP SHOUTING!

The gunk on the filler cap could be a sign the headgasket has gone,  however it can also be caused by doing lots of short journeys.

What car and engine?

Yellow stuff is water / condensation etc mixed with oil.

Gear change problem could be due to low oil in gear box or could be due to a worn linkage, or just that the box needs realigning.

My golfs the same with the oil cap nothing to worry about it sound like you have a worn syncro in your gear box that's Like mine it's been that wAy for about 4 years now on mine I just put up with it can't be bothered to fix it il wTe till the box packs up I think lol
