As above really, my barrel has seized and i want to put one of the door handle barreals into it, can this be done?

Also how do you remove the boot lock?

Cheers

ETKA says no!

The lock cylinder is the same as found on the MK3 Polo though, not that it helps ya :)

I think the button just clips in from behind, unscrew the boot grab handle then remove the plastic trim in the tailgate.  Then all u have to do is squeeze the clips together and it should pop out complete, you'll need to release the metal catch pin 1st though.

Then I believe there is a 'C' clip holding the cylinder in place, carefully remove this and it should come out.  You mighthave to insert the key in the lock to remove it!

Once you have it in bits smother it in WD40 and clean out all the gunk.  Take out the lock fingers carefully and lay them on a flat clean surface in the correct order, and check the condition of the 2 springs, you'll probably find they're all gunked up and rusty, if you can find another Golf/Polo in the scrappy nick a few door & boot lock cylinders, then you should be able to get enough spares to repair yours.

I don't believe that the door barrels are the same dimensions as the tailgate

But just to note :

There are two types of rear lock on the mk2 .

1) Ordinary NON central locking which was fitted to earlier models (  with the ' C ' retaining clip )

2) Later style which has a countersunk screw in the end which was the sort used for central locking  ( if fitted ) or it could be modified for use with an after-market/dealer-fit central locking kit was to be fitted .

Hope this info maybe of use to you or someone

Does my arse look TOO BIG (to fit) in this (forum).... or was it something I said ?

I can't get this lock out!

I have undone everyhting, but the rod for the central locking goes into a white plastic part, how does this bit come out? it has plastic button thing on it, as it pushes in, but does not seem to unclip anthing??

Any ideas?
