I suppose that's the gamble you take. LifeShine at a dealership will never be applied by dedicated detailer, just a valeter that usually has a number of cars to get through the he's getting £10 a car to do.
I'm sure there are some dealerships that will apply it to an acceptable standard, but as mentioned, i'm very anal with detail and as such, the only way I was going to be 100% happy with the paint finish was to take the car immediately to a professional detailer to remove the product and all the swirl marks.
Not saying that you don't care about it MonkeyHanger - I know it may read like that

The scotch guard type product applied to my interior was sprayed everywhere. I had it all over the console, dash, Isofix points etc.. It just looked wrong.
The £55 boot protector is a cheap bit of thin ABS plastic. It claims to be non slip, but it's shiny plastic that everything i've put on has slipped. Also, for a genuine accessory, i'm not particularly impressed with the fit - It certainly isn't perfect.
The rubber mats though, they're great

I really like the valve caps, and guess i'm lucky in that I don't love in a high crime area. Hopefully they'll last on the wheels! Previous 'novelty' caps have.
It all depends what the dealer has done that they need to make up to you. I had LifeShine applied as part of my purchasing deal, but due to issues with the car, I had all the things I mentioned thrown in; rubber mats front and back, sill protectors, boot protector (including a cool Beetle T shirt). Never under estimate the power of the dealer wanting an 'extremely satisfied' response on the VW survey...
