Hi guys, wonder if you chaps with a Discover Pro could check something out for me. According to the blurb in the VW self study guide for the Infotainment units in the MK7, the Discover Pro has built in Dolby Surround / Multichannel capability.
Well I've tried a couple of DVD's and it just seem to decode in Stereo only ?
I know that the information electronics unit (the bit in the glovebox) is probably the same as that in the new Audi A3, but whilst I have opted for the VW Dynaudio sound system, in the Audi you get the option of the Bose System and this comes with 11 speakers including a centre and proper rear surrounds, so as we don't have those speakers in our Golf's, has this feature been "disabled" via software in the VW's but activated in the Audi's ? If so, strange that the self study guide for the VW Golf 7 should make mention of this feature ?
I ask as there is a thread over on motor-talk.de, and a couple of chaps there are adamant that the Dolby surround sound decoding works perfectly in theirs (they tried it with a couple of discs including Star Trek - Into Darkness - and said they had full surround sound) . They say that the centre channel is multiplexed from the left and right fronts, and that the surrounds come from the speakers in the rear doors ?
I do sit for quite some time on occasions waiting for the wife's train on day's where she has to go to head office in Liverpool, and normally pass the time playing DVD's, and so this would just add to the experience (and also partially help justify the huge amount of money I paid for the Discover Nav in the first place

)
Can someone with Nav Pro play a DVD 9or has access to a Dolby Surround test Disc) and can confirm if it's working / not working on theirs please ?
