Rust under rear lamp mk3
« on: 28 December 2013, 16:38 »
Right I'm going to have a shot at repairing my rust issue .

The bottom part the rust has gone through and looks like its been repaired before as there's a mesh type material inside

So could someone advise me on repair , I'm thinking ill cut it out and weld a new piece in and send it of to the body shop or get all the rust and and filler it with P40

What's your opinions please ?

Yuk! I'd definitely be looking at chopping that section out completely.

Agreed, you need to find where the rust ends and where the good metal starts, make sure that you chop out all of the rust otherwise it will just return.

Weld new piece in place and if done properly you shouldn't need much (if any) filler.

Had the bumper off today and the hole was getting rather big , anyways I know its not the best repair as I should have welded in a new panel but decided shirt term to throw some fibre glass in the back and some filler in the front with the old mesh ect and put krust on it all when at bare metal primed up and here's where I am now

Someone's old repair

Most of the Rot out for repair

Filler and primer on

Will get it painted tomorrow , on a budget at the moment so I'm going to have a go at a rattle can job for now I want to know

I've used halfords cans before and there not great

Are holts any good or should I go to a bodyshop supplier and get some made up there ?

Not sure what qualities are like

Times are hard after Christmas this year :( it's all painted now anyways and looks alright for a home DIY until I can afford to have it welded up
