Which VR6 Inlet Manifold?
« on: 01 December 2013, 14:43 »
Been having a look on the 'Bay at VR6 inlet manifolds with a view to doing a bit of cosmetic work on one (bit beyond the normal polishing but not saying any more just yet in case I foul it up!). I see there are different types; OBD1, OBD2, 2.9. Doesn't really affect my project which I use as a base but don't want to put a lot of work into the "wrong" manifold. Is there a particular VR6 manifold people tend to steer clear of? Have tried Search but not really found a satisfactory answer

Just get the one that matches your car, obd1 or obd2 dependant on your car. have read a few threads on VR6OC that obd1 manifolds off 2.9l Corrado's work well on obd1 2.8l giving abit more power

Obd1 is up to 95 obd2 is after 95.

If you have a golf obd1 vr6 then you can fit a corrado.

The throttle bodies changed over so you cant run a rado inlet on a obd2 golf vr6.

If you get a rado inlet manifold then you really need the rado throttle body too.

You would WANT the Corrado TB...it's a better design, as is the 2.9 upper manifold (lower part is the same).
The plenum is bigger on the 2.9 manifold and a better shape....and the manifold and TB together are worth a good few BHP.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

Thanks for the info guys. Not after a manifold to fit my car (mine's one of these nasty uncouth 16v things ). I'm looking at VR6 manifolds for this project because they're a good shape for the cosmetic work I want to do. If it all goes well, the manifold could end up looking pretty sweet and maybe someone might even want the thing!  Just wanted info about different types to avoid putting a lot of work into the runt of the VR6 litter. From what you guys are saying though, doesn't look like there are any real disasters, just some that are a bit better than others. Will probably try and bag a standard 2.8 OBD1 or 2 for a first go.

Thanks again,

'Tis done. I have clicked the button and purchased a 2.8 OBD2 manifold from a '98 VR6. Let the games begin...
