Help on buying new car
« on: 28 October 2013, 07:29 »
I have seen a car on autotrader and it is up for 15988 at an Arnold Clark dealership in Scotland.

I spoke to my local arnold Clark dealership in newcastle and they said they could bring the car in from the other Arnold Clark dealership but they would have to pay current screen price.

Does anyone know if this is true? I am struggling to get a deal on it as obviously they won't budge on selling price and they say my part ex car is worth 14,400. Without any finance involved I just don't think they seem that bothered to do a deal,

I would have thought they would have done a stock transfer at cost, what happens if they bring the car in and it needs work doing to it? Where would there profit be? Maybe that's why they don't want to do a deal.

They won't have to pay the screen price, but they are trying to get you to, as it's not the most attractive deal for them.

As it is you will pay them £1500 to change. Out of that money they will have to cover the transport, preparation costs, VAT on any profit, etc, so it won't leave them with a lot. On top of that, they won't have all the money back that they will have had to pay for the new car, until they have sold yours. That could well sit on their forecourt depreciating by £200 a month over the winter. If you were having finance they might be a bit more accommodating as they could make some more money on commission.

You may get a better deal if you take the cash back for your car, get dripped up for £10k, then settle it after the first month (don't tell them the last bit obviously) Other than that, it seems you'll have to pay the asking price, or find another car.

Thanks for that, yeah I think I'll have to have a look around to see if I can find anything else.

Working in the motor trade in the past, I thought they were telling a little white lie.

Thanks

Yeah I would but they are about 200 miles away so it's a long way to travel.

The dealer has been on the phone and asked what it would take to do the deal, so they must have something to play with.

I'll keep trying to chip away.

Just ring up and try do a deal then drive up 200 miles isn't that far for the right car.

Or pay the full price

This. Surely if you can get a few hundred pounds off it's worth the 200 mile trip? Plus a 200 mile first drive in a new car is never going to be a chore!

This is very true, I'll give them a ring and see what they will offer me for my car.

Thanks :)

I'm sure they won't give you a valuation over the phone. Also what if you drive 200miles to find that the car's been painted?

not really a long way if the dealer selling the car will offer you a deal,as the 1st salesman you spoke to did not really help but now he wants to do you a deal
