remote trigger help for cannon 1100d
« on: 15 October 2013, 22:00 »
got a remote trigger for my camera. seems to be good.

has a few settings you can set on the unit.

delay - how long before the shutter opens
long - how long the shuter is open
no of shots - self explanatory
interval - time between the shots

seem to be working fine, except the long function

guessing I need to set the shutter speed on the camera to a setting so that it uses the figure from the trigger.
however iv lost the instructions that came with the camera, anyone have any idea how to do this?

cheers
paul

The 'long' setting will only work if you set the camera to 'bulb' setting.
Bulb basically means the shutter stays open as long as you are holding down the shutter button or with your remote plugged in it will stay open for the length of time set on the remote.
In any other mode the shutter speed is determined by the camera's setting.
Bulb should only be used if you require a shutter speed longer than the slowest shutter speed on the camera (something like 30seconds) at which point you obviously need it on a tripod.

Wot he said.

Lock down as many setting as possible on timelapse, including leaving the focus on manual, as well as ISO and Aperture.  If you're shooting through the day I would leave shutter speed on auto.

Also make sure you're shooting on JPG only (unless you're going to HDR the output!) and reduce the resolution down, remembering that if you're going to video you only need 1920X1080 to fill an HD video screen.  Bear in mind that your camera will probably shoot a different aspect ratio to 16:9

Larger resolution will allow you to move around the frame in post though, which can give you some nice effects.

Timelapse is massively consuming of your time to process and if you get it wrong you may need to can a whole day of shooting.  It is hugely satisfying when you get it right though!
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

yeah was wanting to do some time lapse type stuff so certain stuff i could get away with the shutter speed on the camera i.e people etc. but want to try one or two pics of starts/space etc(when the clouds bugger off) and im proberbly going to need a larger shutter speed than im able to set on the camera.

anyone have any idea on how to change it to 'bulb' i noticed this mentioned in the booklet i got with the trigger so was looking for this setting but wasnt able to find it anywhere...

Wind the shutter speed out to 30secs.  Next click should give you BULB,
