1.8T Lumpy Idle/Missfire/Poor Running/Juddering
« on: 05 October 2013, 17:18 »
Guys, looking for a bit of advice, the car had the above symptoms with the CEL on. I decided to unplug the MAF and see how it would run and it was back to normal. No lumpy idle or misfires etc.

So got myself a new Bosch MAF from VW, plugged it in and it was great for a few days but now its back to how it was before. Ive not had a chance to scan it yet and don't want to just dive in and say that the new MAF has packed in already because as you know, they aren't the cheapest! Ive unplugged the new MAF and its running okay again.

Before I start replacing stuff etc, does anyone know where I should look first? Obviously, I'll get it scanned as soon as I can. Is there anything which would either cause a new MAF to fail or make a good working MAF play up?

Im thinking that the issue might be nothing to do with the MAF but its effecting it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ill have a word with them and see what they say. As for the age, its a 2002 AUM 1.8T.

Im just wondering if its one of lambda sensors? However, if one of them is goosed, would the car run like a bag of spanners with a good MAF plugged in and fine with the MAF unplugged??

ask them if your car is due coil packs as they had a recall on most of them that age

I just changed all the coil packs 6 months ago, plus the fact that it runs fine with the MAF unplugged I would've thought would rule them out?

Damn cars

Hmm, looks like it could be another trip to vw then. My worry is that I buy another new MAF and it fails pretty much right away aswell due to some underlying issue. I'll maybe just reconnect the MAF, clear and codes, run it till the CEL comes back on and se what codes I get first before dipping into the wallet again

Yeah, cars completely standard. Maybe a leak somewhere? But with a leak would it run fine with the MAF unplugged??
