« on: 10 August 2013, 21:57 »
Back in the 90's I had a capri, fiesta then 2 Orion ghia injections. After the first Orion I desired a golf Gti in oak green but foolishly got another orion.I still love this car in oak green if only....
Have any of you lot owned one of these back in the day?.I love my mk6 but in my opinion the ultimate Gti is a mk2 in oak green.Does any one agree/disagre?

A mk1 GTI campaign in Helios Blue would be a close call to an oak green mk2, of late I'm also yanking after small bumper mk2s more

Owned a mk2 8v 5door but

Small bumper mk2 16v 3d in black was my penultimate. (Ultimate was mk1 campaign) I came so close too, just wasnt even near as described when I went to collect it. This was my if only car...
That experience left a very sour taste.

If I ever get rid of my mk1campaign I keep thinking I would really regret it as had it since 1991.

The thing is they were good in there day you maybe very disapointed if you drove one now. They do feel old.

My biggest regret was choosing a pug 205 gti mi16 over a corrado vr6 storm! Not that the pug was a hoot to drive though! Probably best handling car I have driven.
Just gutted I never chose the vr6 as I would probably still have it now, I think it will always be a classic.

Your probably right that it would be a disappointment now perhaps leave it in the past.I don't know I'm now listening to the Eagles and wearing original kickers boots I think I need to get a grip.Pity they don't do oak green now though.

In 93 I bought an 89 reg GTi 16v 3 door with 24000 miles on clock. Kept it two years, fantastic car, sold it to a mate. I bought a 1991 Mk3 GTi 8v to replace it, terrible car in comparison, build quality nowhere near as good. Now own a 2012 TSi and the interior build quality is also awful, all trim that is clipped together rather than screwed together, rattles all the time, if Mk7 is same poor quality, I will not buy another Golf.

I would have loved to have bought a Mk2 16V when they were new, but could no way have afforded one back then. I did manage to blag a test drive in a 16V Jetta in around 1989 and through it was a flyer compared to what I was used to driving.

Fast forward 20 odd years and I've finally got a Mk2 16V. It's not fast at all by modern standards, but it is still as tight as a drum and handles extremely well. It puts a massive smile on my face on the odd occasion that I drive it, but I guess a lot of that is down to nostalgia.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
