Will a 1.4 16v gearbox work with my 2.0 16v gti engine

Hi all

Will a 1.4 16v gearbox work with my 2.0 gti? I have the drive shafts from the 1.4 and think all i need is the 1.4 clutch and cable is that right? any help would be great.

Doubt they will go together tbh ,even if they did the diff would be on the floor in no time.

an 085 box vs  02a box
I will say I'm out! (that means know, even the 8v 020 box can't handle the 16v power!  :grin:)

(084/5 is the same box as used in the rover 200  :nerd:)

some off the mk3 boxes had a dual bolt pattern. I had a mk3 1.4 box to put in my mk2 gti but in the end I just swapped the 5th gear cogs only.

Oh right thought it might of worked the boxes are exactly the same bar the splines on the 1.4 box being smaller? :undecided:

I'm suspecting it's from the mk4 or a Polo.

Even if it did fit why would you want to use it, all the ratios will be wrong plus it is made of cheese the gearbox is a known weakspot.
