Insurance group comparison

It's well documented that the new gti benefits from the radar cruise for lower insurance.

I just checked a few other card that come in at group 29 ( not that familiar with the new groups but hey ) and it illustrates what good value the golf is.. So here is a selection of motors in groups 28-30

Mini cooper s
BMW 120d m sport coupe
BMW 320 I saloon
BMW m135 group 39 !
Audi a4 2.0 tdi
Ford fiesta st ( group 30 )
Merc a250 (group 33 ! Imagine what the a45 AMG is ?)
Renault Cliosport 200
Vauxhall Astra ( 180 Sri group 25, VXR group 35)
Volkswagen polo gti ( group 30, work that out ?!)

Makes me laugh that when they road test the golf against AMG merc and 135 they ignore the real world issues like running costs..  The reality is the running costs are more in line with junior hatches like fiesta ST and Clio sport.

Insurance and road tax the golf is totally miles ahead of the competition which makes it such a compelling package.

It's one thing testing cars based on list price and among out the golf is the same "price" as the 135 and the AMG merc when specced to the gunnels.. Then saying one is better because it hits 100mph a few secs faster, but most of us live in the real world...

but it's about time mags started to show lifetime running costs - purchase price, depreciation, finance costs, road tax for 3 years, insurance etc.

I bet you then the golf would be more in line with smaller cheaper cars because it holds its value.

The 135 I looked at on the BMW calculator, £27k, 2k miles, the monthly finance charge with same deposit was 450 a month and 11pc APR v 298 a month and 6pc APR for the golf.  Throw in lower insurance, much lower road tax and better retained value...

Yes I am an accountant    but the cost of owning a car is not just list price..

Agreed.  iPad is damn annoying.  Keypad randomly opens and closes, curser jumps or becomes invisible.  Ninja spellcheck "corrects" words as soon as it detects you won't notice.  Copy, paste, delete and half a dozen other basic functions are virtually impossible to use.

Grr.

On the plus side it boots up in 5 seconds and the gmail app is super good at reading this forum via email.

Damn iPad

Agreed.  iPad is damn annoying.  Keypad randomly opens and closes, curser jumps or becomes invisible.  Ninja spellcheck "corrects" words as soon as it detects you won't notice.  Copy, paste, delete and half a dozen other basic functions are virtually impossible to use.
