Mk1 Cab 16v Conversion
« on: 23 August 2005, 10:32 »
Hi,

I'm new to the forum but have had a search around and found bits of info, but thought I'd ask anyways.

I've got a MK1 Cab 8v Carb and I'm looking at putting a 16v engine in it, I've already got a set of Weber Twin 40s to fit to the new engine, but need all the advice etc I can get.

Heres what I think I know at the moment

  • I need to change the wiring loom for a 16v one? or a custom one from TSR.
  • Need a 16v ECU? even though I'm using carbs?
  • I can use the same gearbox and drive shafts etc?
  • Need a custom Exhaust Manifold?
  • The engine mounts are the same so should drop in ok?

I've seen references to a Conversion Document? Does anyone have one or know where I can get one from.

Any help will be very very much appreciated!

Cheers

Dan

that's the same conversion I'm saving my pennies for

I've got the 16v engine, just need to bits and pieces now. Er not sure if I can be much help. Been told you are best getting the wiring from TSR. Also my fuel lines would have to be changed, but then you're staying with carbs, so you probably wouldn't have to.

Velly has had the 16v conversion, so might be able to offer more help. I'm pretty sure you can use the standard engine mounts.

Sorry I can't be much more help, just a pen pusher me  :undecided:
