I've been a Golf owner for a long time, after getting a MKIV hire car way back, probably late 90's and being smitten by the interior and those purple and blue lights. In 2001 I bought one of the first 130TDI's in Reflex Silver and had to wait 6 months from ordering to get it. I've just passed it down to son in law & daughter in April with 67,000 miles and a full VWSH. They are well pleased with that. So having briefly looked at a BMW320D, and walked away, having tried a MK7 TDI, and not being fussed with the e-handbrake, and all the e-gizmo's I bought a MK6GTD, 2012 with 7,700miles in Tornado Red,and a fair few extras. So my love affair with the Golf continues.
I'm not a modifier, I use my Golf as a 'get around' car, and the standard spec is good enough for what I need. The MKIV regularly took five adults and a load of luggage on 300mile journeys and never once did it complain - regularly returning high 40/ low 50 mpg. In 12 years only two things went wrong, both at 4 years. The chip in the climate control failed, so all I could get out of the vents was freezing cold or boiling hot dry air. That cost a whopping £700 to put right, but over the time I had the car, not really a problem. The other fault was that the drivers heated seat failed, and I didn't bother fixing that.
So I might not have a lot to say on here, but I thought it was time to register and say hello!
