Numerous people have told me that it shouldn't have big bumpers on an F plate and to be fair I've never seen one that age with them as standard. Of coarse that's not to say its not possible but I don't know, mine are proper VW and not aftermarket but I added the 90's arches, sill covers and rub strips myself as it had the older big rub strips and no sill covers.

I believe they started rolling them out with "90' spec" in 1989...
