Aderco 5000 Fuel Additive
« on: 20 June 2013, 21:04 »
Hi all,

Just bought a gt tdi and I want to use aderco 5000 fuel additive. I used this on my 2002 BMW 525d sport and it improved fuel consumption by 2-4 mpg.  My main concern is the DPF, but having spoke to company today they said this is excellent to break down diesel deposits and helps dpf from blocking up. Any advice?

Google aderco 5000 and you will find the product.

Cheers.

Hi Gaz, modern fuels already have additives designed to reduce deposits and engine wear, especially if you use something like V-Power.
Additives such as the one you mention don't usually have any effect and are a waste of money. How do you know your fuel consumption improved by 2-4 mpg? I know you will have tested before and after but were your tests done under identical driving conditions? It doesn't take much to alter your fuel consumption by 2 mpg and I would suspect it was nothing to do with the additive.

Hi.i measured the mpg by filling the tank up to the brim and drove to inverness and back (visiting family) and cruised all the way. I did this before using aderco and after I had been using it for a while and my mpg improved. Even general commuting with same driving techniques I saw improvements. Prior to this I used she'll v power which I also saw slight improvements.

Shell v power costs £3.50 more per tank and aderco costs £1 per tank. My main concern was with the additive potentially harming the DPF. I would prefer to just use v power but the price seems very steep. I always try to use normal shell wave fuel but sometimes cost 3/4p more per litre than supermarket fuel. I know there are many theories on supermarket fuel v bp, shell etc, just don't know what to believe!

Anyway if nobody thinks the additive will harm the dpf then I guess I will try the additive again!

Cheers.
