Magnetic sump plugs

Anyone use them on any of their vehicles?

They do what they say on the tin I guess, wondering if anyone has actually pulled out any small chunks of metal or the like when using them...

One is for sale for cheap, like almost the same price as a normal sump plug and I am changing the oil soon, wondering if it is worth it.

They attract tiny particles of metal floating around in the oil which are smaller than the filter element size of the oil filter. Can only be a good thing to take those away from the oil.

Personally cant see the point! Theres not a lot of bolt to collect any metal.
You shouldnt be and chunks of metal in there. If there is then you have a problem.
I normal check my drained oil with a high powered magnet on a long bolt.
If your oil looks like someone has poored a tube of glitter in there, then again you have problems.

I wouldnt bother, but at the price then why not?

ive had one on my previous mk2 and although I never had any issues regarding wear or reliability there was very small bits of swarf present.

not sure where it would have come from.....

The amount of times I have detonated the engine on my MK2 im sure that they have stopped it from clogging up other bits. Go for it, its only a sump plug

magnetic gearbox plugs are good

sump plug, as long as it dosent leack it can't do any harm can it
