steering wheel wiring help
« on: 10 May 2013, 19:09 »
ive got a mutli control steering wheel on my mk4 golf and the volume controls and cruise control have stopped working but the airbag light is NOT on which is strange.. ive checked the relay with a multi meter and its getting power and the cables at the back of the relay are live. ive also had the clock spring out and if you check the pic ive circled in red the part i checked for continuity with the pins on the front of the clock spring to the back and all of them gave a reading. what is the part that ive circled in blue as that doesnt come to the other side of the clock spring. next thing i was gona try was run another earth cable from the wires coming from the steering wheel but any idea which one i need to connect to? is it one of the wires coming from the yellow plug or the one thats connected to the blue part? i really need to get this sorted now as my MOT is due soon.
another thing i need to add is a few months the fan/blower stopped working and that turned out to be a faulty earth cable, i duno if both of them could be related? anyway ive cleaned the 3 earth points under the battery tray and its still the same.

had some progress today, i got the horn to sound. i took the casing off relay 53 to see if it was closing but it wasnt. i pushed the part in the relay thats meant to close and the horn worked. im not all that good with eletrics so can anyone tell me if its narrowed down the problem for me?
