Advice needed please

I'm thinking about re spraying my ashtray door handles and centre console surround but what's the best way to prep these for a re spray do I need primer ect ...

Rub them down with very fine wet and dry so as not to leave scratches, plastic primer then top coat as required.

Does the ashtray just pull out ? Wanna do the part aswel on the door that's around the electric window switches too unless I find someone cheap enough to carbon wrap it
