Fan control module
« on: 16 March 2013, 14:48 »
Is there a way of bypassing the fan control module? As my fans arnt kicking in, I thort it was the fan motor but after buying another one and that not working I'm think its the FCM so wanna bypass it to check if the fans come on

Cheers

Hi mate, easy way to test is to bridge out the coolant temp switch on the rad with a bit of wire and if the fans come on then you can narrow the fault down to be the fan module, I have the same fault with mine

You need to start with a multimeter. Would have told you straight away if the fan motor was goosed or not.

Check for 12v somewhere on the FCM with the switch bridged. Double check 12v goes off and on corresponding with the bridging.

Then there should be a 12v feed coming out of the FCM too. I have to admit I've never examined one closely on a MK3. I do recall there being a fuse or relay inside IIRC.

I may may may have a spare lying around which you can have if I find it.

Where all my moneys went.
