Is it just me or is that poor design?

Engine mount on an AUM. 18mm head M12 bolt. Go to undo it and stupidly tight to undo. Great we're into trouble here. Undo with a big bar and thread full of aluminum.

Why on earth did VW use M12 Steel bolts going vertically into an ALUMINUM block to hold the engine. Vertically.....

Yes bolts will be replaced as one use but how stupid is that?

M16 thread into stainless inserts being put back.........

Where all my moneys went.

Did you have the engine supported when you wound the bolts out? I didn't have any trouble with mine or my mates

Yes. Mount was free floating. My dad (engineer) reckons it was over tightened which obviously isn't a design fault but it just seems a bit crap. Plus the corrosion on one of the bolt was a bit shocking. The belt has never been done on it so unless an engine mount was replaced which I doubt then it was a VW fault. 97k miles. Dampner was beyond knackered.
