oil filter position
« on: 17 March 2013, 07:12 »
gave my car a oil change and filter yesterday as its something always do since my 1.8t audi had the sludging problem (for my wn piece of mind) . normally a 5 min job on all previouse cars . problem was the oil filter position . never had as much difficulty in my life , its in the daftest place with air con pipes in the way and you cant get ratchet on , so u put the extension on and that hits the fan . eventually did it but cut my hands to bits . is there  and easy way without going to the garage for my future paranoid diy service

Is the filter not on the top of the engine on the drivers side  :undecided:,i always thought this was a strange place for it to go but it looked fairly easy to access.

It's very easy access on the GTi as you say at the top left of engine, think the OP has a different car spec though.

The older 1.4 16V were just as much fun. Its like a round of krypton factor to get the damb things out.

Interesting where the filter is on the 1.4 Golf. On the 1.4TSI Scirocco (2011 build) it is in the same place as the GTI - at the top of the engine and the valve in the filter makes changing easy with no mess from oil leakage.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.
