Clicking....
« on: 26 July 2005, 17:00 »
Just brought a cheap Mk2 Golf Gti 8v as a 2nd can for running about with, but noticed on the way home it has an annoying clicking sound as I am driving along...it gets faster as I do, so I assume something to do with wheels or axles etc... Hard to pin point where its coming from but seems to dissapear when I turn a left hand corner!

Any ideas?

Thanks

Does it get faster with the engine speed or road speed? If with the engine speed it could be the tappets, mine does this but I'm hoping an oil change will sort it out.

Mine did exactly the same. Though mines a mk1. Does it sound almost like a relay ticking on and off? Turn left and it would disappear. I assumed it was just my new suspension wearing in as it's gone now. Although i now seem to have a wobble in the steering wheel so whether it is the cause im still not sure. I also noticed it on breaking too. Very random. any ideas?

It changes speed with road speed not engine speed, so not tappets.
and also stops when I take a left hander....again unlikely to be tappets.

Any mroe ideas guys? gets a bit annoying at 100mph...these little beasties are a bit of a laugh!

Do these things have PAS as standard? steering seems bloody heavy if it has!

CV joint on passenger (nearside) would be my remote advice mate they click like foookers on their way out and can cause some serious headaches if just left to die. get it looked at asap. It could be your wheel bearing but they tend to woosh and squeal rather than click.

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08
