Rear Electric Window Problem
« on: 18 July 2005, 10:16 »
Ive got a bit of a problem , one of my rear windows made a loud bang on saturday and now the window no longer operates.

Ive had the door card off and can see nothing much wrong , the motor works fine but does not engage the window anymore.

I think what has happened is the the motor has pushed the runner over the top of the window latch .

I have come to this conclusion due to the following facts

1) With the window pushed back up , any operation of the open window switch causes the window to open .

2) The window will not fully close [manually pulliing the thing up] unless i press the close window switch until it thinks the window is closed .

Assuming i am right , can anyone give me a clue how to re-engage the mechanism .

Hi adyh, I had the exact same problem with my rear drivers side electric window. But now fixed.

The part you have bid for on ebay looks about 3 quarters complete :undecided: The ebay photo show the regulator and motor which is OK, but seems to be minus the steel bracket which both holds the window glass in place and secures it to the regulator cable.

I had to buy a regulator unit from VAG, but it came minus the window motor but with the window bracket. This was ideal as my window motor was working fine but the bracket was broken. As you probably saw when you had the door card off, this steel bracket is held on to the regulator cable ferrule by a flimsy plastic attachment. In my case, this plastic attachment had broken, causing the glass to drop inside the door. But the motor still worked fine, it would take the glass down with it but would not lift it up again.

Is the your steel bracket holding the window glass broken in the way I have described above? If it is, then you need this part. VAG only sell this as one piece with the regulator (£49.50ish inc. VAT), motor was sold as a separate item. GSF only sell motors/regulators for the front windows

Luckily I still had the old regulator in my garage and I've taken a couple of pics for you, to see if its any help. But I'm relatively new to computers/internet and not really sure how to add them to this post. However I will try and have a go, In the meantime I hope this helps .

Phil.

It's a very small bit of white plastic, it may not have broken completely off the bracket yet. It's not a very robust design in my opinion . If or when you do get a new regulator, it's a pretty straight forward job to replace it once you have the door stripped down .

Hey I had the same problem as mysticblue_mk3, I bought what I thought was a complete unit from from a scrappy from the GTI international show but when I got home the metal frame wasn't with the regulator and motor, this is still in my garage as I repaired my origanal one.

on the metal frame that clips onto the cable there is a white plastic housing that holds the bead that is mounted on the cable, well one side of this was broken..hence window only going down and not up, so I drilled a hole into the metal plate and used a tye rap to hold the bead in place, you may have to tighten it up quit a bit as the bar bends to the shape of the door panel and the bead could come out if not tight.

hope this helps
