crank re-fitting 20vt
« on: 06 February 2013, 17:37 »
ullo!

I'm in the process of rebuilding my agu with some forged rods and lots of new bearings, seals and gaskets. I'm a bit struck with re fitting the crank tho. Do I need to do anything with the thrust bearings that sit either side of number 3 main cap? I'm guessing its a case of sticking the new shells in, bit of lube, torque up the new bolts and off we go? I've got some new main cap bolts and some green plastigauge. Has anyone got any more info or tips? Any help would be most appreciated :-)

pop the shells in,  check the clearances with plastigadge if you like.

lube it,  put the caps back on, torque down  give teh cranck a littel spin to ensure it runs free,  the connect up the rods

tis about as simple as it gets tbh  just be sure to work clean
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
