My thoughts are the car is an 09 plate so it will be 4 years old soon.
I am not wanting a new model to impress anyone apart from me and my wife.
I feel I want a newer car so should I sell sooner rather than later so I don't loose to much

Your car is only ever going to go down in value so if you are thinking of changing then do it. But just make sure you get a fair deal on what ever you are buying then you cant really complain. However the car you are considering buying might be a lot cheaper in 6 months time than paying top dollar for it now. Your car is not going to be worth thousands and thousands less where as the car you want now might be a few thousand less in 6 months. This is providing you would consider a used car. Buying a new car the gap will just get bigger and bigger and yours drop and new cars go up and up in price.

I'm wanting a mk7 gti
I wasn't sure if there would be many used gti's for a while
But I would be happy with a used one if the spec was right

VW dealers aren't knocking cars out for 14K! I just bought a 10 plate, standard spec car with 25k miles for £15k from Porsche Byfleet. Kept an eye on it via Autotrader for a few weeks & watched  it come down in price from £16,750! The salesman even showed me an invoice for what they paid, £15,300! I considered I got a bargain. Same car 6 months younger at my local VW dealer, £18,000.

Mine is being part exed this weekend, got £13000 for it, its booking at £13500 so the Mini dealer said if immaculate, but needs a couple of wheels doing and some minor body wear.

Mine is an 09 plate GTI 35000miles, candy white, 18" monza's, RCD510 and leather. So not a bad spec, but by no means the best out there. I was quite pleased with the part ex price. I tried to sell private a couple of months back started at £15500, but just kept getting silly offers so withdrew the ad.

I dont think used prices have been hit to bad in the last quarter of 2012, as i got offered £13000 in Oct from a dealer. MK5 prices have held up really well also, so dont think the MK7 coming out will make to much difference on MK6 values
