You generally get what you pay for. Just be VERY specific what you want when the car is in the workshop and out of your hands. Don't say that there is no rush, it could be there for months (ive heard of people waiting for a year+) Don't pay everything up front.

Lowest of low will be £800 which will be a very quick sand and paint with low quality materials. No body work would be included in that, just filling of small imperfections, car park dings etc. There is a 95% likelyhood of rust especially if your car has arch trims so factor in extra work.

If it's going to be a show car, garaged, not driven much, bare metal respray and you have money to burn then you could spend silly money at 8-10k.

If it's a daily then I wouldn't spend more than £2500 for a decent job excluding welding/majoy bodywork.

My respray was £1800 which included a few small repairs, primer, VW paint and top quality lacquer. He was recommended to me by my old landlord who had his Ferrari Dino resprayed at the same time so I got a low quote. I also spent £250 to sort out 2 small areas of rust to the front of the rear arches and plate and lead all of the trim holes by this guy: Quality of his work is amazing: www.thehotworks.com

1st thing to do when you have found someone, look at what they are doing in the workshop and their previous paint jobs. Try and find someone who is starting up their own busines with previous experience. They will be keen for the job and will probably quote cheeper than a big paint shop.

Good luck!
