back in feb/march me and a work friend purchased a maserati quattroporte for his wedding and for me to use for something ect ect was one of them deals 50/50 in and 50/50 out ect .

anyways . when we purchased it the car was HPI checked and came back clean ! ,

come to sell the car , have people ringing left right and centre be there in the morning with cash ect ect and people wernt showing so we got suspicious . anyways one bloke rang back ripping us a new arsehole saying were selling a cut and shut blqah blah its a CAT A

so we was like  it was clear when we bought it ? ,

we know the history of the car as we work for a dealership that has looked after the car from new . and we know he had a rear end smash in it . but insurance paid up for it and all was sorted .

so basicaly according to HPI we have a CAT A write off ,

so where do we stand ? what we dont understand is we insured the car no problem back in march . and had it MOT'd last week . and like i say when we bought it , the car was HPI clear so

what do we do , the car owes us a hell of a lot less than its up for PX's love them ! , but if its cat A ,(although the car is MINT not a scratch on it) we have to strip it and we have been shafted .

any advice out there ? we have got our company sells manager looking in to the hpi issue . but looking for some forum advice from you insurance / experienced people .

many thanks .

Query with the company who originally informed you it was clear and see what their records say now. Ask when it was classified.

It it was a Cat a, it should have been crushed.

No chance. Cat A isn't even fit for spares, it must be crushed. If it a car is in such a bad condition that it was Cat A written off, then there's no chance it's on the road. Cat B must never return to the road, but can be used for spares, Cat C can return but after a check, and Cat D can return as it's probably been light cosmetic (but expensive) damage.

Could be that the car is actually stolen and has had the plates of a Cat A car attached. Probably wasn't Cat A when you bought it, but then has subsequently been killed. If you've still got a copy of the HPI report, double check the VINs match in all the usual places. Either way, doesn't look good.

If the HPi report you run shows the name of the insurer who paid out on the write off you could give them a ring to find out more details.

You may find its a an error on the system, first thing to ask them is what make/model the car was that they declared written off and then ask the chassis number. Check that against your vehicle.

It could be something as simple as someone with a similar reg to yours had a vehicle written off and it got logged against yours in error.

As stated previouslt if its CAT A it should of been scrapped.

If you manage to find out which insurance company it was with at the time and its one that we deal with id be happy to call them up on your behalf and see if i can get to the bottom of it?

Best Regards
Neil

They do get it wrong occasionally, we've recently seen a fully VIC'd Cat B being returned to the road.

got this all sorted in the end . was a cock up with the HPI company , what makes me laugh is they told me the hold no responsiblity for getting it wrong ! , so not much point carrying out the check if thats their attitude ,

may aswell ask fred in a shed for its history next time .........
