Track rod tool

There doesn't appear to me much info on this, so I thought I'd create this post, as it will more than likely help several others out as well

I need to replace my track rods as there is play in both ends. Now I have read up and watched several videos on how to replace the track rod ends, but with the inner track rod itself, several people have used a rather crude looking tool (looks like a toilet plunger ).

Now, I know space is tight where the inner track rod is attached to the steering rack, but will conventional tools allow me to replace this myself, or will I need said plunger?

If the previous question is a yes, what size would I need for the mk4, as there are several sizes available on eBay (25-35mm, 28-35mm, 35-45mm)?

If anyone has replaced their whole track rod arms before, tips and comments are most certainly welcome

No idea what that tool is for, definitely not needed, with the car up on stands you can get a large spanner on the nut and just undo it! I've replaced plenty and never needed a tool!

Only advice is to make 100% sure you replace the boot and make sure its spotlessly clean inside the boot and the ties are done up properly on said boot, failure to do will cause the smallest bit of dirt to ruin the steering rack seals and you'll knacker it very quickly!

Great tool!! Use one very similar to that one at work every time a side rod needs changed.

I've seen YouTube videos of them being used, and it literally makes the job take 5secs!! Do you know what size I'd need though?

Just you tubed it, looks a nifty tool. But if your just doing 1 car it's pretty expensive really considering a spanner can be used! Good idea for say a garage...
