Sorry Wayne, my apologies but when I first looked he had his location as Somerset.
(not really sorry!)

Like wayne I could definitely recommend a garage in Swindon but that again is a bit far.
When I worked in Bath in the early 90's there was a very good garage on Lower Bristol Road and one under the Railway arches but no idea if they are still there!

I do actually have a very practical solution for you!

Dont use 5th gear!
Now that will cause an increase in mpg but probably a lot cheaper than paying a garage to change or fix the gearbox.
Or you could try holding it in gear.

I had to do this for nearly two weeks once when I had the same problem and didnt have time to get a gearbox and fit it.

Holding 5th in will do for now but quite a few times i have to go gear hunting when i press the clutch so its not ideal. Ive foubd bristoltransmission.co.uk online who seem like they know what theyre doing. Anyone with any experience of them? Either way mots in feb. No cash till then anyway

Lol, I've been holding the gear stick when ever I reverse, it pops out, but I've got another gearbox, which  going to give In for reconditioning, so going to change the clutch too for a new one.

But I mean I've been holding it together for the last 7 months, and I intend to hold it in reverse until it lasts lol
