Very Hard Clutch and Steering
« on: 19 July 2005, 08:19 »
Hi,
Recently bought a 1988 VW GTi Cab. The Clutch and Steering are exteremely hard. (Especially the steering).
Any tips on how to loosen these up. Steering is so hard that you can hear cracking sounds when turning the steering..... :-(
Arms are paining now.

Thanks

hi you have the same problems i had firstly the steering could be following

1,camber needs setting up if its got lowered suspension they may not have put the camber back to its original position

2,top mounts could be seized which would cause the springs to make a noise on turning

3, or it could be a shagged steering rack but i wouldnt have thought so

clutch hard

1, check the cable where it goes through the bulk head this is a weak point of the car it can pull right through

2, replace cable this could be old and worn

3,the following was mt problem the push rod that depresses the clutch in the gearbox pushed straight through the maetal clutch cover causing it to go hard eventually it pushed all the way through giving me no cluctch had to replace clutch which isnt to bad if you know what your doing

just pray you never get fuel problems now that is expensive lol
